PROJECT WOMEN'S LITERACY

The purpose of this project is to teach Q’eqchi’ women to read and write and learn basic Spanish. In this geographical area an estimated 99%* of the women do not know how to read or write in their own language ( Q’eqchi), and an estimated 90%* do not speak Spanish, a necessity for isolated villagers who wish to market goods, and study or work outside of the local community.

PROJECT NUTRITION & HEALTH

This project has been initiated to relieve the avoidable causes of disease and deaths due to malnutrition. A food supplement, Incaparina, replete with protein, iron, vitamins and minerals, is provided to children at high risk (under 5 years of age). There are plans to expand the supplements both to other villages and also to pregnant and lactating women.

PROJECT MICROFINANCE

This project provides small business loans - known as microfinance - to qualified women applicants. These loans provide financial opportunity for women to improve the quality of life for themselves and for their families.
